When God Says Wait: Loving Someone While Trusting His Timing

There are moments in life where your heart feels pulled in two different directions. On one hand, you care deeply, you love deeply, and you feel something so real that you cannot just simply turn it off or ignore it. But on the other hand, you are faced with the reality that things are not fully in your control —and maybe they never were. That is a hard place to be.

Lately, I have found myself in a season like that and many times before with previous relationships/talking stages. A season of loving, longing, waiting, and frankly… learning how to trust God in ways I did not expect.

It is not always loud, theatrical, or dramatic. Sometimes it is quiet like right now. Sometimes it is just sitting with your thoughts, wondering what God is doing behind the scenes.

And if I am going to be real, there have been moments where I have questioned everything. Not necessarily God—but the timing, the process, the “why.” Why now? Why this way? Why doe something that feels so right come with so much uncertainty? But in the middle of all of that, I have started to realize something important: Trusting God is not about having all of the answers.

It is about believing He is still good—even when you do not understand. It is easy to trust when everything is going the way you hoped. It is easy to have faith when the door opens right when you knock. But what about when the door stays closed? Or when it feels like you are just… waiting?

Or maybe this door is just meant to stay closed? Only He knows and we have to be able to discern whether or not we have to or should wait on that door or just let it be. That right there is where real trust is built.

I am learning that loving someone and this part is important, surrendering that situation to God can coexist at the same time. It does not mean you stop caring—that was a hard truth to swallow on several accounts. I know how hard it is as an empath myself to set a boundary and give time and space when needed; after all, Jesus himself did it as well! It does not mean your feelings were not real. It just means you are choosing to believe that God sees the full picture—even when you only see a piece of it.

And maybe that is where some of you are right now. Maybe you are holding onto something—a person, a dream, a prayer—and you are not sure what God is doing with it. Maybe you have been waiting longer than you thought you would. Maybe you are tired of not having clarity.

If that is you, I want to remind you this:

God is not absent in your waiting.

He is working in ways you cannot see yet. He is shaping you, growing you, preparing you, I like to think of it as refining you through fire. And even if the outcome does not look like what you expected, it does not mean it will not still be good.

I will admit, I do not have everything figured out right now and we have to accept that we do not have to have everything sorted out. I am still walking through it. I am still learning. Still trusting… because that is what He wants us to do during these times. But I do know this—God is faithful. And whatever He is writing in this season… it is not the end of the story.

Scripture & Reflection

“Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not into thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.” — Proverbs 3:5-6

There is something deeply challenging about this verse when you are walking through uncertainty. It is one thing to trust God when everything makes sense. But this kind of trust—the kind Scripture calls us to—is different. It asks us to not lean on our own understanding. That means even when our emotions are strong, even when our desires feel light, even when we think we see the full picture… we still choose to trust Him above all of that. That kind of surrender does not come naturally.

It is learned in seasons like. Seasons where you do not have clarity. Seasons where you are waiting. Seasons where your heart is involved, and the outcome feels uncertain. But this is where faith becomes real. Because acknowledging God in all our ways does not just mean inviting Him into easy parts—it means placing the confusing, emotional, and even painful parts into His hands too. And His promise is not that He will immediately explain… but that He will direct your path. Even now, He is guiding you—step by step, moment by moment—whether you can see it or not.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, Thank you for being present in every season of my life—even the ones I do not fully understand. You see my heart, my desires, and the things I have been carrying quietly. You know what I am holding onto, and You know how much it means to me. Lord, teach me how to trust You more.

When I am tempted to lean on my own understanding, remind me that Your ways are higher than mine. When I feel uncertain or overwhelmed, give me peace that goes beyond what I can explain. Help me to surrender what I cannot control and place it fully in Your hands.

Father, guide my steps. Direct my path. Even when I do not see the full picture, help me to walk forward in faith, knowing that You are working all things together for good. Strengthen my heart in waiting. Give me patience, wisdom, and clarity in Your perfect timing. And above all, draw me closer to You through this season. I trust You, Lord—even here. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
