Sunflowers Near Home
Photographs from ordinary places, gathered over the years.
I never set out to make a collection of sunflower photographs. I simply kept noticing them.
Most of these were taken close to home, scattered through different years and ordinary days — along roadsides, in fields, with Benjamin when he was younger, and later with my grandson Dwight. Sometimes I photographed the whole unruly patch. Sometimes I got close enough to notice the light coming through a single petal.
Looking through them now, I like that they aren’t really about sunflowers alone. They hold pieces of home, family, changing seasons and the small things I stopped long enough to see.
